Product Description

The teak wood plant (scientifically known as Tectona grandis and locally as Sagwan) is a large, deciduous tropical hardwood tree belonging to the family Lamiaceae, highly prized globally for its exceptional durability, water resistance, and rich golden-brown timber.

KEY PLANT CHARACTERISTICS

APPEARANCE: Grows 30 to 40 meters tall with a straight, cylindrical trunk (1 to 1.5 meters in diameter) and a spreading crown.

LEAVES AND FLOWERS: Features large, rough, dark green elliptical leaves in opposite pairs, producing fragrant white or cream-colored flower clusters (panicles) that mature into woody fruits.

WOOD QUALITY: The heartwood has a golden-yellow to brown color with natural oils (tectol) that make it naturally resistant to termites, rot, and weathering.

GROWING REQUIREMENTS

CLIMATE: Thrives in tropical monsoon climates with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 45°C and annual rainfall between 1,200 and 2,500 mm.

SUNLIGHT: Requires full, direct sunlight (6 to 8 hours daily).

SOIL: Prefers deep, fertile, and well-drained alluvial or sandy loam soils with an ideal pH level between 6.5 and 7.5.
