Product Description
The Pedilanthus plant, now classified under Euphorbia tithymaloides and widely known as Devil's Backbone or zig-zag plant, is a striking, low-maintenance succulent shrub featuring distinctive zig-zag stems, fleshy leaves, and slipper-shaped red or pink flower bracts.
KEY CHARACTERISTICS
APPEARANCE: Grows 1.8 to 2.4 meters tall outdoors, but stays smaller (46 to 60 cm) when potted. Stems grow in a zig-zag pattern. Leaves can be solid green or variegated with white, pink, or yellow edges.
TOXICITY: Contains a milky white sap that is poisonous if swallowed and can cause skin irritation or blisters upon contact.
COMMON NAMES: Devil's Backbone, zig-zag plant, redbird cactus, and slipper flower.
CARE REQUIREMENTS
LIGHT: Thrives in bright, indirect sunlight or partial shade. Protect from harsh midday summer sun to prevent leaf burn.
WATER: Drought-tolerant. Allow the top few centimeters of soil to dry out completely before watering again. Reduce watering in winter.
SOIL: Requires loose, well-draining soil, such as a standard cactus and succulent potting mix.
PROPAGATION: Easily grown from stem cuttings by letting the cut end dry for a day before planting in well-draining soil or perlite.
