Product Description

The Nam Doc Mai mango plant is a famous, premium dessert cultivar originating from Thailand, highly prized for its exceptionally sweet, honey-like flavor and smooth, fiberless pulp.

FRUIT CHARACTERISTICS

  • SHAPE & APPEARANCE: Elongated, slender, teardrop-shaped fruit with a noticeable pointed beak. The skin turns a brilliant canary-yellow to golden-amber color when ripe.

  • TASTE & TEXTURE: Silky, buttery, and 100% fiberless flesh with an intense, aromatic sweetness and delicate floral or honey-citrus notes.

  • USAGE: Widely eaten fresh when fully soft and ripe, and is the classic choice for authentic Thai mango sticky rice.

PLANT & TREE SPECIFICATIONS

  • TYPE: Available widely as a grafted live plant, which ensures true-to-type fruit and much faster maturity than seed-grown trees.

  • GROWTH HABIT: Semi-dwarf and moderately vigorous with an upright, manageable canopy. Mature trees in the ground can reach 10 to 15 feet wide and tall (or up to 4–6 meters if unpruned).

  • CONTAINER FRIENDLY: Due to its manageable semi-dwarf nature, it adapts wonderfully to large terrace pots or rooftop containers.

  • FRUITING TIME: Grafted specimens typically start bearing fruit within 1.5 to 3 years after planting.

CARE & GROWING REQUIREMENTS

  • SUNLIGHT: Requires full, direct sunlight (at least 6 to 8 hours daily) for optimal growth and high sugar content in the fruit.

  • SOIL: Prefers fertile, loose, loamy, and well-drained soil with a neutral pH range (6.5 to 8.0).

  • WATERING: Moderate watering. Allow the top 2–3 inches of soil to dry out completely before watering again; avoid overwatering. Reduce watering significantly during the ripening/harvest phase.

  • CLIMATE: Thrives best in warm tropical and subtropical weather conditions.
