Product Description
The Chinese palm, or Chinese fan palm (Livistona chinensis), is a popular tropical plant featuring glossy, bright green, fan-shaped fronds that droop at the tips to create a fountain-like effect. It works well as a large indoor houseplant or an outdoor landscape feature.
PLANT PROFILE
NATIVE PLACE: Eastern Asia, including China, Japan, and Taiwan.
HEIGHT: Grows 30 to 50 feet (9 to 15 meters) outdoors, but stays much smaller (6 to 15 feet) when grown in pots indoors.
LEAF SHAPE: Large, semi-circular palmate fronds split into drooping segments.
USES: Ornamental garden plant, patio feature, and indoor air purifier.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
SUNLIGHT: Bright, indirect light indoors; partial shade to full sun outdoors.
WATERING: Water when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil feels dry. Reduce watering during winter.
SOIL: Loose, fast-draining mix containing peat, perlite, and loam.
FERTILIZER: Feed with a balanced, slow-release palm fertilizer during spring and summer.
PESTS: Watch for spider mites, mealybugs, and scale insects on the leaves.
