Product Description

The BARI 4 Mango (Mangifera indica) is a highly popular, late-season hybrid mango variety developed by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI). Officially released in 2003, it is a cross between the American Florida M-3896 variety and the local Bangladeshi Ashina variety. It has gained massive commercial traction because it ripens late, capturing high market value after most traditional mango varieties have finished their season.

PLANT CHARACTERISTICS

GROWTH HABIT: Naturally medium-to-large with an upright and spreading canopy. However, premium grafted commercial saplings are maintained as highly manageable dwarf or semi-dwarf trees.Bearing Habit: Regular and highly consistent bearer year after year.

ADAPTABILITY: Thrives excellently in tropical climates and is perfectly adapted to subcontinental weather across Bangladesh and India.

VERSATILITY: Can be successfully grown in backyard farms, home orchards, and even in large terrace containers or grow bags.

FRUIT PROFILE

SIZE & WEIGHT: Large, heavy fruits generally averaging between 350 to 400 grams, with some reaching up to 600 grams.

SHAPE & COLOR: Roughly round to oval-oblong. The skin starts out a deep green, turning to a gorgeous greenish-yellow or golden yellow when fully ripe. Portions receiving direct sunlight often develop a reddish-pink blush. It is visually unique for having a distinct hump near its tip.

TASTE PROFILE: Extremely sweet with a rich tropical aroma and an impressive sugar content (Brix rating of roughly 17% to 24.5%). Notably, the fruit tastes pleasant and sweet even when consumed raw.

FLESH: Deep yellow-to-orange flesh that is completely fiberless and rigid, providing a dense, meaty bite.Shelf Life: Because the flesh stays firm even after fully ripening, the fruit has excellent post-harvest storage stability for room-temperature shipping.

SEASON & YIELD

FLOWERING: Inflorescence initiates during late winter (January–February).

HARVESTING WINDOW: Mid-to-late season, typically picked between June and July. In certain microclimates, harvesting extends into late July and August, allowing it to dominate the late-summer market.

CULTIVATION & PLANT CARE: To maximize yield and keep your BARI 4 plant thriving, use the following core guidelines...

SUNLIGHT: Requires 6 to 8 hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight daily for maximum flower initiation and sugar development.

SOIL: Prefers rich, fertile, well-draining sandy loam or loamy soil with plenty of organic matter. Avoid waterlogging, which rapidly triggers root rot.

TEMPERATURE: Thrives best in warm temperatures ranging from 24°C to 36°C. It should be sheltered from prolonged extreme frost or severe, dry wind storms.

WATERING: Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy. Water 2–3 times a week, increasing the frequency during hot, dry summer spells. Reduce watering slightly right before the blooming season to encourage flowering.

NUTRITION: Feed the plant with a balanced NPK fertilizer and well-composted manure every 45 days during the growing season (spring to early summer).
